The Mummy MOT®  At The Boxgrove Clinic

Our Pelvic Health Physiotherapist is a qualified Mummy MOT® practitioner. It can be a magical time after the birth of your baby, but equally it can bring all manner of unexpected concerns. We recommend an initial assessment at 6-8 weeks postnatal. However, we also treat women who gave birth years ago and still experience issues like diastasis recti or pelvic floor concerns. Mums need to bend, squat, and lift, which is why we offer specialised postnatal care and functional exercises for women following childbirth, regardless of how long ago it occurred. The Mummy MOT® is ‘The Postnatal Check You Deserve’.

What is The Mummy MOT®?

A Mummy MOT® is an essential postnatal assessment tailored for women after both vaginal and caesarean deliveries.

This comprehensive examination evaluates your posture, pelvic floor muscles, and abdominal muscles to assess their recovery post-birth.

If any issues are identified, your Mummy MOT® practitioner can provide personalized exercises and treatments to aid in your recovery process and safely guide your return to exercise.

FAQs about The Mummy MOT®

No, a Mummy MOT is beneficial for all mothers regardless of whether it’s your first or subsequent pregnancy. Each pregnancy and childbirth can impact the body differently, and a Mummy MOT can help address specific concerns related to your postnatal recovery.
It is recommended to wait at least 6-8 weeks postnatal before having a Mummy MOT. This allows your body sufficient time to begin healing after childbirth. However, if you have specific concerns or issues, please contact us for guidance.

Some health insurance policies may cover Mummy MOT assessments and treatments. We recommend checking with your insurance provider directly to confirm coverage.

The Mummy MOT® includes an internal pelvic exam and you will be required to remove the bottom half of your clothing. You will be asked to sign a consent form or give a verbal agreement before the exam takes place.

Of course, if you are nervous or worried about your initial appointment please do bring a friend or family member with you.

All therapists at The Boxgrove are fully qualified, fully insured, and belong to the necessary governing bodies. Each one is hand-picked by us and is a specialist in their field of expertise.
