What You Can Expect From Your Initial Assessment

In your initial assessment your physiotherapist will take a comprehensive history and complete a full ‘hands on’ and movement assessment to help diagnose your issue. They will discuss your potential injury or issue with you, explain why you might be feeling pain and agree a bespoke treatment plan with you. They will talk openly about working together to achieve your goal and most importantly explain how long it is likely to take and why. Your physiotherapy will be carried out in a private and spacious treatment room and or our purpose built, fully equipped physiotherapy rehab studio. This spacious studio includes 4 Pilates Reformer machines, a Pilates Cadillac, a Pilates Wunda Chair and a running machine as well as specialist rehab equipment like Training Stairs, Bosu balls and free weights.

Common Issues We Can Help You With

Physiotherapy can help in the rehabilitation of muscle injuries, such as strains (overstretching) and sprains (ligament injuries).

Conditions like osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis often lead to joint pain. MSK physiotherapy can help manage pain and improve joint function.

Physiotherapists can provide exercises and techniques to alleviate both acute and chronic back pain. They may also address issues like herniated discs or sciatica.

Whether caused by poor posture, muscle tension, or other factors, neck pain can be treated with physiotherapy.

Rotator cuff injuries, frozen shoulder, and other shoulder problems can benefit from physiotherapy to improve range of motion and strength.

Physiotherapy can help with knee issues like patellofemoral pain syndrome, ligament injuries (e.g., ACL tears), and post-operative knee rehabilitation.

Conditions like hip bursitis or labral tears can be managed through physiotherapy.

After orthopedic surgeries, like joint replacements or ligament repairs, physiotherapy plays a crucial role in recovery.

Poor posture can lead to a variety of musculoskeletal issues. Physiotherapists can provide exercises and guidance to improve posture.

Injuries sustained at work, such as repetitive strain injuries or back injuries, can often be managed and prevented through physiotherapy.

Conditions like tendonitis (e.g., tennis elbow, Achilles tendonitis) are frequently treated with physiotherapy to reduce inflammation and promote healing.

As people age, they may experience issues like decreased mobility, balance problems, and an increased risk of falls. MSK physiotherapy can help maintain function and prevent these issues.

Some neurological conditions, like stroke or Parkinson’s disease, can lead to musculoskeletal problems. Physiotherapy can aid in mobility and function for these individuals.

MSK physiotherapy can also provide guidance on injury prevention, fitness, and ergonomics to reduce the risk of future musculoskeletal issues.

FAQs about Physiotherapy

No that’s not necessary. Our Physiotherapist is trained to evaluate and treat your concerns. However, if you wish to use private health insurance you should contact your insurer before making an appointment as they may require a referral from your GP.

During your first visit to The Boxgrove, the Physiotherapist will give you an initial assessment. This will include discussing the relevant problem, the suggested treatment, and your expected outcome. The suggested treatment will take place during this initial assessment and you may do some work in our Rehab Studio if relevant to your needs. A tailored treatment plan will then be discussed together and suggested exercises or advice given.

We recommend that you wear loose comfortable clothing. We may ask you to partially remove some clothing so that we can access the area to treat. We provide shorts should you need to change. All rooms are warm and blankets provided. We also use towels to maintain your privacy.

Your therapist will be able to determine approximately how many sessions will be required after the initial consultation.

Of course, if you are nervous or worried about your initial appointment please do bring a friend or family member with you. If you’re under 16 years then an adult will need to be present during the consultation.

All therapists at The Boxgrove are fully qualified, fully insured, and belong to the necessary governing bodies. Each one is hand-picked by us and is a specialist in their field of expertise.
